How do I search for books?
This website has a powerful, flexible searching system, but it can remain as simple, or as complex, as you like.
There are three main ways of searching the book catalogue:
Quick search: Enter one criterion, e.g. ISBN, Title, etc. and click the 'GO' button or press return.
Simple search: Apply pre-selected criteria from drop-down boxes.
Use the box at the top left of the homepage, or in the green bar near the top of all other pages. You are given three headings, offering category, age range and price variables - which you may select using the drop-down boxes under each one.
Advanced search: Create a very specific search by using multiple criteria.
Click 'Advanced Search' just above the 'Quick search' box. You will be presented with a full-page of search fields. This is particularly useful if you have specific requirements, e.g. Accelerated Reader book levels, or Book Bands. This will also enable you to narrow your search more quickly. Click here for more help with the Advanced Search.
How do I view book details?
Search results are presented in a list, which can be sorted or filtered using the options at the top of the list. For more detailed information on a particular title within a list, click on the title or cover image, and you will be taken into a details page, which includes all the bibliographic information, cover and centrefold images. You will notice our evaluation on the page, and clicking the tab will display our itemised review, which gives our suitability ratings. For a an introductory guide, click here.
What do some of the terms in the details section mean?
There is a wide range of bibliographic detail available under the Book Details section. For a glossary, Click here.
How do I add books to the basket?
Books can be ordered from a list by entering a quantity in the box on the right-hand side of the list, and clicking the 'Add to Basket' icon. Quantities can be entered against multiple titles on a page, and clicking any 'Add to Basket' icon will transfer all of those quantities to your open order.
Books can also be ordered from the details page. Scroll-down to the bottom right-hand side of the screen and you will see a quantity box – add your quantity and click 'Add to Basket'.
Any items you place in the basket will not disappear if you log out, so don’t worry – you can go for lunch, or leave at the end of the day, and your order will still be there when you log back in!
How do I view, edit, and commit my order?
To view, edit and commit your order, click 'View Basket' towards the top-right of the page.
The contents of your basket will appear in a list, and you will be able access details of individual titles by clicking the title or ISBN.
Here you can amend quantities or remove titles altogether, add voucher codes and select servicing requirements.
After making amendments, remember to click 'Update Basket' to save changes.
Servicing requirements: Clicking the 'Change' button in the servicing section will display the range of servicing options available to you - use the tick boxes to select or de-select. (Click here for more detail on our standard servicing offer)
Selecting 'Fiction Spines or 'Non-fiction Spine Labels' will trigger the spine information (the first three letters of the author's surname for fiction and the Dewey class number for non-fiction) to turn from grey to black and become editable, so you may change the information on printed on the label to suit your own system.
Selecting 'Customer-supplied Barcodes' will inform us that these are to be fitted - please contact us on 0121 666 6646 to organise supply of your barcodes beforehand.
Checking out: Once you are happy that your order is complete, click 'Checkout' to send the order to us electronically. At this point, you will be asked to confirm your delivery address, and will be given the option to specify a delivery date if your school is closing for a holiday shortly.
Clicking continue will provide a summary of your order with a final total, and you will be asked for a Purchase Order Reference – this is your reference for the order, and will appear on the invoice when your books are delivered, so if you have an official Purchase Order Number, please quote it here.
Clicking 'Complete my order' will submit the order, and you will be given the opportunity to the print the summary.
